The last thing Oregon pianist David S. Howell said he remembered on his flight from Chicago to Portland before blacking out from drugs and alcohol was fingering Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Sonata No. 2. Howell said he didn’t remember banging on the walls and cursing in the plane’s lavatory or threatening to kill a male flight attendant.
